Remembering Grandmothers
crocheted buoyant rope dimensions of the doilies vary from 4 feet to 9 feet diameter I initiated a community project by making large doilies that can float. Crochet lovers from the City of White Bear Lake, MN, gathered and we made these doilies. Buoyant rope was used to make them. Since the rope can float by itself, the big doilies can also float. The floating doilies created beautiful movements on the lake like that of a jellyfish. Originally, this work was done to express my gratitude to both my paternal and maternal grandmothers who taught me how to crochet and showed me the joy and value of making something with hands. At White Bear Center for the Arts, White Bear Lake, MN, this community project was done also to show the importance of preserving clean water and hand it down to the next generations. 2022
