Ripples of Regeneration
plastic bottles, fishing line 15.5 feet diameter One day, my friend casually put an almost-empty coke bottle on a table in front of me. I saw a pretty brown flower like pattern created by the small amount of coke on the bottom. I was attracted by this flower and this is how I started to use plastic bottles as a material for making art. I collected many plastic bottles and cut the bottom parts out to make “plastic flowers”. I joined them with a fishing line to create a doily-like structure, and then hung it from the ceiling. For this piece, nearly 700 of the plastic flowers were used. The word ”recycle” is used in the context of the plastic bottles to imply “rebirth” and “regeneration”. Our life is limited, but it is repeated and continues infinitely. This situation is analogous to the life cycle of water and substances around us. 2006
